Non League Weekend Preview
Non League Weekend Preview

After the weather took control of non-league football over the last seven days, it’s time for the lower levels of the game to take to the stage again this weekend.

Bromley have had the worst week of all our local clubs. Their FA Trophy game at Spennymoor on Tuesday night was postponed less than an hour before kick off. On Saturday they’ll hopefully be able to return to their regular schedule when Guiseley travel to Hayes Lane.

One place above Bromley are Ebbsfleet United. The Fleet have had a better week than their North Kent neighbours after announcing the signing of Norman Wabo from Southend United on loan. Daryl McMahon’s side could close the gap on the play-off positions this weekend if they are able to get three points at Leyton Orient.

One of the sides in the top seven places are Dover Athletic, and the Whites have a chance to climb as high as third this weekend. Chris Kinnear and his squad travel to Eastleigh’s Silverlake Stadium in search of three points.

Finally in the top tier of non-league football, Maidstone United’s troubling run of form since the turn of the year has put them dangerously close to a relegation battle. They welcome fellow strugglers Torquay United to the Gallagher Stadium on Saturday knowing a win could get them as high as 16th.

Dartford still lead the pack in the race for promotion to the fifth tier of English football. They sit two points clear at the top of the National League South and could extend that lead at home to Poole Town on Saturday.

Welling United also have hopes of promotion from step six this season. The Wings sit two points outside the top seven but could leapfrog Braintree with a win at East Thurrock United this weekend.

Further down the footballing pyramid we come to two of the most surprising stories of the season. Both Margate and Folkestone Invicta have shocked teams in the Bostik Premier and currently sit in fourth and third respectively. Both sides have the chance to go top on Saturday with the Thanet side travelling to Hendon and Invicta making the trip to Harrow Borough.

The third local side in the Bostik Premier, Tonbridge Angels, host Worthing this weekend. The Angels’ season has been somewhat mediocre but the club could still have small hopes of reaching the play-offs.

In the division below Margate, Folkestone and Tonbridge, there are a couple of Kent sides who still have play-off football in their sights.

After their incredible start to the season, Cray Wanderers have started to drop points. They now sit fifth in the table but could rise back to second with a win at another play-off chasing Kent side in Hythe Town.

Elsewhere at step four of the non-league game Ashford United host high flying Lewes, both VCD Athletic and Faversham Town are on the road at South Park and Greenwich Borough.

Sittingbourne are involved in the early kick off on Saturday afternoon when they head to the Channel Islands to face Guernsey.

There’s another all- Kent fixture in the north of the county where Phoenix Sports play Herne Bay and Thamesmead Town’s away game at Corinthian Casuals puts an end to the top four levels of non-league football this weekend.
