He has penned a contract to link up with fellow shot stopper Mark McGill for another campaign.

Steve Nightingale, a product of junior hockey in Peterborough, has previously appeared for the Islanders in what was formerly known as the English National Ice Hockey League (ENIHL) for two years between 2002 and 2004 and again in 2006/07.

Since then the netminder dressed for numerous recreational sides including the Medway Madness, Westminster Statesmen and London Rangers pitting him against NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division 1 players as well as former professionals from France, Norway and the UK.

In 2014/15 the shot stopper then made the significant step forward by rising to NIHL South Division 1 hockey where he played understudy to Mark McGill and Mark Lee throughout the campaign.

The goalie was ever present – still joining the players on the bench even when not dressing for the fixture – whilst on the ice he was tested against EPL opponents the Basingstoke Bison and Guildford Flames in the English Challenge Cup.

He would end the season having iced in eight outings and saved 145 of 177 efforts on his net and now he returns for 2015/16 looking to challenge himself once again.

Speaking on the return of Steve Nightingale, Head Coach Kevin Parrish said, “Steve showed vast improvement in his game over the course of last season and alongside that his attitude to the sport was simply fantastic.”

“He was always part of the side, even when he wasn’t dressing for the fixture, and a real team player from the first puck drop in September to the final buzzer at the end of the campaign in April.”

“This year he will link-up with Mark McGill once again with whom he has already formed a great understanding both on and off the ice which is ideal for a number one and number two pairing.”

“I’m sure he will improve yet further as the season gets underway and I look forward to him showcasing his abilities throughout 2015/16”.

Steve Nightingale is player number seven to make the Invicta Dynamos roster this summer with number eight, a new face, set to follow swiftly on Monday evening.
