Kent clubs busy ahead of new season

We’re another week closer to the start of the football season and Kent’s non-league clubs are busy looking to expand and complete their squads ahead of the new season.

Dover have added to a busy summer this year with the addition of Steve Rigg. The striker spent last season at Gateshead but left the club after they were demoted to the National League North.

The 26 year old, who has also had stints at Carlisle, Barrow and Chorley, scored 9 goals in 44 appearances on Tyneside.

There is also a new face at Bromley, who are putting together a strong squad ahead of the new season. Neil Smith’s most recent agreement is with Korrey Henry.

The young striker joins the Ravens following a spell in Essex at Braintree Town after starting the season at Yeovil.

Maidstone are another club who have made some impressive moves this summer, and that continued this week with the addition of Jonathan Edwards.

After investing heavily in the back line in recent weeks, Edwards moves to the Stones as a striker with Football League experience at Peterborough United. He spent last season at Halifax Town in the National League.

Elsewhere in tier two of non-league, Welling have had a busy week bringing in five players ahead of the new campaign.

The club have secured the services of Kudus Oyenuga, Joe Anderson, Sanchez Ming, Archie Johnson and Nathan Green ahead of next season.

Tonbridge Angels have also been busy preparing for the new season, bringing in Rian Bray. The defender spent last season at Hampton and Richmond Borough and started his career at Millwall.

As Neil Cugley enters his 22nd season in charge of Folkestone, he s slowly getting his squad together ahead of the new campaign. On Thursday the club announced that Kieron McCann has rejoined the club after his time at Invicta last year. Striker Ira Jackson has told the club he will sign when he returns to training later this month.

FA Vase finalists Cray Valley PM have secured a number for the names who helped them achieve promotion last season. Club captain Andy Walker, Ashley Sains, Liam Hickey, Danny Smith, Francis Babalola and Anthony Edgar have all agreed deals to stay at the Badgers Sports Ground.

In Thanet, it’s been a busy week for Ramsgate at they secure even more signings. In a triple announcement on Wednesday, Dan Carrington, George Monger and Leo Mazzone all put pen to paper with the Rams.

Further along the coast, Herne Bay have signed striker Ricky Freeman. This came just days after the former Whitstable Town player seemed to announce he would stay at the Oystermen.

Sittingbourne have also been getting involved in some transfer action this week. In addition to bringing back some players from last season, the Brickies have also brought in former Millwall youngsters Harry Taylor and Lewis West. Full back Jason Fregene and goalkeeper Brad Commins have also joined the club.
