Mitchell ready for GT3 campaign

Jack Mitchell is back on track this weekend as he launches his assault on the British GT Championship in the GT3 class.

Mitchell goes into the season as the GT4 champion and he is looking forward to hitting the track at Oulton Park this weekend.

Speaking to Kent Sports News, he said: “I’m really looking forward to getting started again and getting back out in the BMW M6 GT3. It’s been a long winter with little pre-season testing so I’m eager to see where we place in the order at qualifying.

“Watching the rest of the team testing makes it feel even longer since I last tested the car.  It’s been over a month since I last drove the car but I’m sure I’ll be back into the swing of things after a couple of laps.”

This season Jack will be behind the wheel of the BMW M6 GT3, and he is looking forward to seeing how he does behind the wheel.

He added: “The car is a proven race winner across Europe but it’s hard to know how it will perform at the UK circuits. Testing has been positive and the majority of the circuits we race suit the car so I’m hoping we can surprise a few and get the car where it deserves to be.

“At this level I feel you have to always be aiming for championship wins. This year will easily be my toughest year by far, my competition are at the top of their game but it’s something I feel will bring me on as a driver and improve me. I have the right team and co-driver with me to do the job.”

Speaking of the co-driver, Mitchell will be sharing the driving in the GT3 class with Ben Green, and he believes they will work well together.

“I think through the season me and Ben will be working well. We don’t exactly work together but we work well with our team and engineers to give them a better understanding of the car and what we can do to improve it. Although there is a driver’s championship on the line, we also have team’s championships to worry about.”

We asked Jack just how he is looking forward to racing and how much he misses it during the off season.

He said: “It’s always good to have the first month or so to relax after a stressful end to the year. It’s always hard to stay away from the racing scene as you’ve always been brought up around it. You can do as much testing as you like but nothing compares to the high and lows of a race weekend.”
