Jack Mitchell and his Airwaves Racing backed Ginetta G40 head home to local circuit Brands Hatch as the 2014 Ginetta Junior championship comes to a close on the GP loop this coming weekend.Jack Mitchell5

Wrotham-based Jack has enjoyed a near perfect season with his JHR-run Ginetta and goes into the weekend decider with an impressive 70 point lead in the championship. Having set an incredible benchmark since the opening round in March; scoring points in all but one round, Jack already has an unprecedented 7 wins and 7 pole positions under his belt and needs only to score 1 more championship point to secure the 2014 title.

With the season starting on a high in front of his home crowd at Brands Hatch in March, the Kent teenager is eager for a repeat performance during this weekend’s season finale, commenting; “My aim this weekend is to secure the Championship not just for myself but also to help my team JHR to win the Team Championship as they have been fantastic this season.

“It will mean a great deal to me to take the title at my home track in front of my family, friends and supporters and I can’t wait for the weekend to come!”

Jack has enjoyed the added exposure of the Airwaves Racing livery on his G40 this season along with the background support of David Bartrum’s Motorbase Performance squad, including BTCC stars Mat Jackson and Fabrizio Giovanardi. “Having the support of Motorbase and Airwaves Racing this season has been fantastic” added Jack.

“It has raised my profile and I feel I have done a good job in return for them. It’s given me a great insight working alongside Mat and Fabrizio; hopefully I can follow in their footsteps and enjoy a career as successful as theirs in the years to come” said Jack. “I can’t thank David, Barbara and everyone at Motorbase enough for all they have done for me.”Round 8 of the 2014 British Touring Car Championship.

This season has by no means been a walk in the park for the 16 year-old. After a flawless start to his 2014 campaign, the last few rounds have seen his G40 struggle for pace as the rest of the pack piled the pressure on with wins becoming harder to come by. Jack has showed his maturity however, bouncing back with a stunning race win during the Championships penultimate round at Silverstone two weeks ago.

“I think the highlight of the season so far has to be the win at Silverstone” remarked Jack. “Having been under so much pressure to perform while struggling for pace in the previous few rounds, to still manage to get the win was great.”

Jack and his JHR-run, Airwaves Racing liveried Ginetta G40 will be back in action on the iconic Brands Hatch GP loop this coming weekend as the 2014 Ginetta Junior Championship season comes to close. Following Saturday’s free practice and qualifying sessions, the first Ginetta Junior Championship race of the weekend commences at 16:55.Jack Mitchell6

The final race of the season will be shown live on ITV4 and ITV.com as part of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship coverage at noon on Sunday.
