McDonald linked with Gills departure

Striker Cody McDonald seems set to leave Gillingham despite being offered a new deal with the club.

The 30 year old has spent the past four seasons at Priestfield, but seems certain to turn down the offer of a new deal in favour of signing for another club.

McDonald has been the main striker at The Gills in recent seasons, scoring 52 goals in 173 appearances, having spent two previous loan spells with the club.

With Rory Donnelly already having been let go by Ady Pennock, Gillingham were hoping McDonald would commit his future to the League One side, but he is rumoured to have had a medical elsewhere and could be announced as signing in the next few days.

Losing McDonald would come as a blow to a Gillingham side that also face stiff competition to keep hold of prized assets Bradley Dack and Josh Wright.

Both have been subject to plenty of interest since last season ended, whilst Josh Parker is the only striker to put pen to paper on a two year deal with The Gills.

As the club prepare for pre-season training and a trip to Ireland, fans will be hoping there are more new signings soon, although it may be loans that help the club re-inforce for the season that lays ahead.
