Lidsey ready for season opener

Dartford’s Brett Lidsey is back on track and will be racing in the Renault UK Clio Cup for 2018 as part of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Brett is excited to be going racing and getting the season underway after what seems like a really long winter.

Speaking about the season ahead, he said: “I’m really looking forward to the first round, it’s at my home circuit of Brands Hatch which I love so it’s a great way to kick the season off.

“Unfortunately I will be absent at Oulton Park as I’m getting married that weekend, we did try changing the date of the wedding so I could contest the full year but unfortunately it’s a popular venue and it’s the only date they had left, my fiancé loves racing as it keeps me happy which makes her life that bit easier.”

Brett is keeping things consistent on the track again as he joins forces for a team that he knows well in MRM racing.

He added: “Yes, I am back with MRM, the relationship we have is very strong, the team know me and how I drive and together it makes a great combination, I’m very settled at MRM so it was a no brainier really.”

Brett has set his targets for the coming season and he is hoping that he will be able to achieve those aims as the season gets underway.

“100% podiums and wins are the aim, the competition is strong but we keep getting better every year and this year is no exception, I have been training hard through winter to make sure I’m physically and mentally strong so everything’s in place ready from day one.

“Winning is always the target and nothing less, yes I’m at a disadvantage with missing a round but I’m hoping that the championship bringing back drop scores will play in my favour.”

Valuable data was gathered for Brett and his team during the recent media day, even though the weather wasn’t ideal.

He said: “We attended media day which was a good day but unfortunately for everyone the weather did not want to play ball so it was more about seat time and gathering data than setting lap times, we have done a few other days testing prior to the media day at Donnington and Brands just to make sure we are at the sharp end.”
