Brett Lidsey is returning to the Clio Cup Series grid for 2016 after making further progress last season.Brett Lidsey - 2015 - Jakob Ebery

This time Brett will join his brother at a new team and he is looking forward to getting back out there and going racing again in March.

Speaking to Kent Sports News about returning to the series for 2016, Brett said: “It wasn’t easy, and is always a nerve racking time once the previous season finishes, not knowing what you’ll be doing the next year or if you will be racing at all, but we sat down and looked at the options and found that with our budget and the racing being so close and challenging in 2015 the Clio series (which is now being run by BARC) can only get better.

“We did look at doing the UK Clio cup but the budget just wasn’t there, so we decided to stick with what is the better Clio and what we know. Adding to the above with all the known clarity of the regulations of the road series cars and how well Tyler did last season it was a no brainier for him to move up to the race class, with being brothers we can work together so we already have the upper hand when we arrive at Oulton park for rounds one and two on the 19th of March.”Brett Lidsey in Clio Series action

The brothers have made the move from team 20Ten to a new team in MRM for the coming campaign and again it wasn’t an easy decision.

He added: “Yes we have moved teams, it was tough as 20Ten was a big part in our great results of 2015 but our mechanic Mike Ritchie who previously worked for 20Ten decided he wants to not only mechanic for a team but run one and we both feel that having a mechanic that already knows how we drive can only mean better results for 2016.”

With Tyler making the step up from the Road series to the Race series for the coming season, it means the brother will be going head to head on the track.

“It’s going to be great, a lot of our family and friends are worried as they really don’t want a Lewis and Nico situation but we are both competitive people and racing is racing.    Brett Lidsey3

“The data from both the cars will be crucial, even from road series to race series last year we could tell where each other is stronger, having that information will make us both faster in ourselves and also better the setups on the cars.”

With the season almost upon us Brett is busy behind the scenes making sure everything is in place for the 2016 season.

He said: “Getting on the podium goes without saying for the both of us, me personally I want to win! I have been so close to winning on many occasions so this year it’s happening!!

“We are currently getting all the new liveries etc. sorted, we are also confirming all of 2016’s sponsors and patiently waiting for the weather to get better so we can test!”
