Kent Cricket vice-captain Joe Denly has been named in England’s provisional squad for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, which starts on 30th May.

Captain Sam Billings has also been named in the squad for England’s only ODI vs. Ireland at Malahide on 3rd May, as well as for England’s one-off T20I vs. Pakistan on 5th May, fresh off the back of recording his highest ever T20I score of 87 vs. West Indies in March.

If selected to play in the World Cup, this will be Denly’s first ODI appearance for England since the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy in October 2009, where England were beaten by Australia by nine wickets.

The right-hander most recently featured in a 3-0 T20I whitewash England victory in the West Indies, where he was utilised with both bat and ball for the tourists.

Denly is the latest Kent player to be selected in a World Cup for squad for England, with James Tredwell a part of England’s 2015 World Cup squad that travelled to Australia.

The Cantebury-born right hander has also been selected in England’s squad to face Pakistan in an ODI series from 8th to 19th May, as World Cup preparations ramp up.
