Kent make Gidman loan signing

Nottinghamshire all-rounder Will Gidman has joined Kent on a month’s loan and goes straight into the Spitfires squad to play Middlesex in the Royal London One-Day Cup at Lord’s on Sunday.

The 31-year-old left-hander is available to play six matches during this period, four in the Royal London One-Day Cup followed by two in the Specsavers County Championship.

Following a potential Kent debut on Sunday, he can play against Hampshire at The Ageas Bowl, on Tuesday, a home clash with his former county Gloucestershire next Sunday (31 July) and a trip to Hove to face Sussex Sharks on Tuesday 2 August.

Gidman, who has taken 198 wickets at 23.48 in his first class career so far, could then feature with the red ball against Worcestershire at Canterbury, before rounding off his spell with a further contest against his former colleagues, this time at Bristol.

Kent captain Sam Northeast said: “Will was a serious talent during his time at Gloucestershire.”

“He doesn’t have blistering pace but is very skilful with the ball and gets a few runs.”

“With Fabian Cowdrey and Calum Haggett out, he will bolster our resources and I’m sure he will do a great job going forward.”

“He is hungry to play and we hope he will come into the side and buy into what the team is all about as our two overseas players have.”
