Jewiss head to round two of season

Kiern Jewiss moves onto Donington Park this weekend for the second round of the 2017 Ginetta Junior Championship.
The talented youngster travels to Donington this weekend on the back of an eventful debut weekend in the series two weeks ago. His first ever weekend in the Ginetta G40 was one of mixed fortunes as he displayed great pace through the practice sessions. Jewiss continued this pace into the races, running second in the rookie standings in race one before spinning and ending his first race prematurely. Sunday’s rollercoaster race saw the kent-based driver tagged early on in the race, sending the 14-year old to the back of the pack before delivering a stellar performance in his Douglas Motorsport Ginetta to recover to 11th place.

The 1.98-mile track at Donington, which played host to the 1993 European F1 Grand Prix, is located in North West Leicestershire and has been a permanent fixture on the BTCC and Ginetta Junior Championship calendar. This weekend will also see a change In the schedule, with three racess across the weekend – one on Saturday and two on Easter Sunday.

Last year’s races saw Kiern’s team, Douglas Motorsport, collect two wins from three attempts so the team will be heading into the weekend with high expectations. Kiern, however, will be looking to gain more vital experience in the car and gain more miles on a track where he has only ever driven on once before.

Speaking ahead of the weekend, Jewiss said: “I’m really looking forward to my second weekend in Ginetta Juniors on another new track. The team have had success at the circuit in previous years so I think we should have a good package heading into the weekend. Personally, I want to carrying on understanding the car and get more laps under my belt – all of this will help me in developing my skills.”
