Invicta Dynamos 10-1 Streatham

The Invicta Dynamos booked their place in the NIHL South play-off final in emphatic style on Sunday night.

Having tied 3-3 with Streatham in South London on Saturday evening, the game was set up nicely in Gillingham with both sides going into the game with almost full strength rosters in which to choose from.

The Dynamos welcomed back Nicky Lewis as they took to the ice in front of another bumper crowd at Silver Blades and what a treat the fans were in for.

In a cautious opening twenty minutes, Streatham elected to once again employ the tactic of putting Jacob Ranson as man marker to Dynamos import and dangerman Adam Rehak. For the opening exchanges, it worked, but the wheels were to well and truly come off later.

With a few contentious decisions to debate at the first break, the game was tied 0-0 and still 3-3 on aggregate.

The nemesis for the Dynamos all season, the second period, proved to be far from it this time round.

It took just 32 seconds of that second period to open the scoring and when Elliott Dewey’s strike from the blue line was diverted home by Rehak, despite the attentions of Ranson, the crowd erupted.

Less than a minute later and it was 2-0 as fellow import, Ondrej Zosiak blasted home from the blue line.

There was little over 25 minutes on the clock when it became 3-0 as Matt Colclough denied first Steve Osman and Tommy Ralph, but Scott Bailey was on hand to turn the puck home.

With Zosiak and Callum Fowler sitting for harsh penalties, the Dynamos tried to defend the 5 on 3, but the numerical advantage soon paid off for Streatham as Jack Tarczycki shot past Damien King for 3-1 on 27:21.

That only served to inspire the Dynamos as they scored three more before the break.

With 36 minutes almost on the clock, Rehak once again evaded the attention around him to round off a great move involving Mason Webster and Ashley Jackson.

Less than a minute later and Zosiak went on a mazy run down the ice, before unleashing a fierce shot that Fowler did well to tip home.

With Ryan Giles sitting on the opposite bench for tripping, the Dynamos made full use of the powerplay to make it 6-1 with 18 seconds left on the clock in the second period as Jackson fired home at the far post after great work from Fowler.

The final period served to be yet another treat for the home fans as they added four more without reply, Fowler adding the seventh in the 50th minute with a sublime bit of skill seeing Colclough beaten over his shoulder.

With around five minutes left to play, both sides elected to change netminders, the Dynamos giving a much needed rest to King, allowing John Dibble to take to the ice.

He though was largely a spectator in those final five minutes though as the side added three more late goals.

Brett Shepherd in the opposing goal was hopelessly exposed and the pressure told on 58:38 as Jackson and Webster combined well before the former slotted home.

At 59:22 Rehak got behind the Streatham defence and led Shepherd a merry dance before despatching the puck beyond the young netminder.

There was still time to make it double figures though as Fowler joined Rehak on making it a hat-trick, poking home Webster’s pass with eleven seconds left.

It was a fitting end to a thoroughly entertaining tie that sees the Dynamos progress to the final 13-4 on aggregate.

There they will meet league and cup winners Chelmsford Chieftains who comfortably booked their final spot with a 11-3 win against London Raiders, 16-4 on aggregate.

The first leg will be in Gillingham on Saturday night with face off at 5:15pm before heading to Essex on Sunday evening for the final competitive game of another entertaining season.
