Hollands and Blair v Deal Town preview

Perhaps the most unexpected aspect of the Southern Counties East League season thus far is the poor form of Hollands & Blair, who are currently propping up everyone else in the table.

The Gillingham club have picked up just two points from their opening 10 league games and the Hoops will be hoping to extend that dismal run when they visit the Star Meadow Sports Ground on Wednesday night.

Hollands & Blair were promoted to the SCEL for the 2015-16 season after winning the old Kent Invicta League the previous campaign and made an immediate impact, finishing runners-up behind Greenwich Borough.

And, although Blair slipped to an eighth place finish last season, it’s still surprising to see the Medway outfit rooted to the bottom of the table after losing seven of their last eight matches in league and cup.

So on paper at least the Hoops, boosted by Saturday’s FA Vase win at Balham, have an ideal opportunity to end their poor record against Blair, having lost all four of their meetings since H&B joined the league.

But Derek Hares’ side will need to keep a close eye on Blair’s danger man, striker James McDonald who won the league’s “Golden Boot” award two seasons ago and has already bagged nine of Blair’s 13 goals this season.
