Herne Bay U17s have won their first ever South Eastern Counties (SECRHA) U17s league title following two strong performances in their final tournament of the season at Medway Park, Gillingham.

Bay knew they had to win both of their games to tie with HBU on points and then rely on their vastly superior goal difference to tip the balance.

The young side quickly set about HBU in the first match of the day and their fast passing game resulted in an early goal to settle the nerves.

A half-time score line of 1-0 did not flatter and four further second half goals were just reward for this hard working team.  Goals were shared between Jamie Tritton (2), Herbie Hudson (2) and Sian Emslie.

The second match of the morning, against Invicta, was to prove a much tougher battle. Bay again took an early lead but some indifferent defending resulted in a 2-3 half-time score line.

To their credit, Bay did not panic, netting twice in quick succession in the second half and then holding onto the ball with confidence to run out 4-3 winners.

In this game, two players did the damage in front of goal with Tritton scoring a hat-trick and Emslie adding the fourth.

Taking into account that all except one of this group of players qualify to play U15s age group hockey, this has been an excellent season so far for Bay who now look forward to further tussles with local rivals HBU on SECRHA finals day and in the National Cup final on July 2nd.
