Henry joins Kent for 2018

New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry will join Kent for the first half of the 2018 season, subject to international clearance.

The paceman will be available as our overseas player for the first seven Specsavers County Championship matches and the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Henry has taken 167 first class wickets in 46 matches and 25 wickets in nine Tests for the Black Caps since making his debut against England at Lord’s in 2015.

The Christchurch-born bowler said: “I’m looking forward to joining Kent for the new county season.

“I’ve heard lots of good things about the club from the other New Zealand players who have played at Kent and can’t wait to get started.”

The 26-year-old has taken 67 wickets in 35 ODIs including the 2015 World Cup final against Australia, where he dismissed David Warner and Michael Clarke.

He has county experience from two spells in the last two years, at Worcestershire and Derbyshire and has played two seasons in the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings.

Director of cricket Paul Downton said: “Matt is an excellent bowler who will add international experience as well as pace and penetration to our attack in the opening months of the season.

“I am delighted Matt has agreed to join us and look forward to welcoming him to the club.”
