Kent’s Barry Hawkins moved into the second round of the World Championship with a 10-5 win over China’s Zhang at the Crucible.

Barry Hawkins 2015

The 11th-seeded Hawkins, from Ditton near Maidstone, will face Ronnie O’Sullivan, the man who beat him when he became a surprise finalist back in 2013.

Hawkins lost just two frames in the second session of his opening match at the World Championship as he waltzed into the second round of the tournament.

Leading 5-3 overnight, Hawkins won three of the opening four frames on Wednsday afternoon to take charge, racking up three half-centuries as he did so.

Zhang edged two close-fought frames as he tried to stay in the match, but Hawkins then added another half century in the 14th frame to go 9-5 up, then finished in style with a 141 – the highest break of the tournament so far.

Frame scores: 73-21, 68-36, 20-94 (83), 81-13 (58), 0-91 (91), 41-93 (93), 74-25 (66), 86-21, 67-31 (66), 81-14 (52), 23-77, 90-12 (57), 47-76, 85-0 (55), 141-0 (141)
