Greenwich Borough 3-4 Corinthian Casuals

Coming into the Ryman One South Play Off game, it was either going to be third time lucky for Greenwich Borough or three out of three for Corinthian Casuals.

Despite being reduced to ten men early on, it was the visitors who completed the clean sweep.

It took just three minutes for Borough to go ahead when Mohamed Eisa hit a low drive that hit a divot to bobble over the hand of Danny Bracken and into the net.

Malachi Hudson, back after a long lay off, then went on a run that ended with a shot that Bracken pushed around the post.

If it all seemed to be going smoothly for the hosts, it all changed when Casuals first meaningful attack was halted by a clumsy foul by Glenn Wilson. Shaun Okojie stepped up and sent Craig Holloway the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Joy turned to despair for the visitors moments later, when a wild swing by Coskun Ekim felled Lewwis Spence resulting in referee Tom Bishop showing the Corinthian’s midfielder a red card.

It didn’t bother them unduly, however, as live-wire Reyon Dillon cut in from the right and finished with aplomb.

However, parity was restored when Hudson was brought down just outside the area and Peter Sweeney curled a perfect free kick over the defensive wall.

Ekim fired over and Dillon met a corner with a header wide as Corinth looked to regain the lead.

Eisa struck a shot straight at Bracken before Greenwich had the ball in the net again just before the break. Danny Young headed forward and Spence nodded into the net but it was disallowed for offside.

Soon after the break Okojie was off target before Greenwich again came close as Charlie MacDonald’s header came back off the cross bar.

Dillon out paced the Greenwich defence but shot wide before Casuals went back ahead when awarded a free kick for a reason not obvious. Mu Maan stepped up, and with the aid of a deflection, left Holloway helpless.

Despite being short handed, the visitors continued to look dangerous and Holloway had to come out sharply to thwart Dillon once again.

Okojie missed with a free header but was more clinical with his next chance when slotting home calmly.

Substitute Robert Denness had a close range header saved by Bracken, Liam Hickey headed over from a corner and Spence headed wide as Borough looked for a life-line.

They did pull one back through Wilson with seven minutes remaining but they could have gone behind in the closing minutes.

Josh Gallagher sent fellow substitute Warren Morgan away but he went for glory when a square ball would have set Okojie up for his hat-trick.

Although it did not affect the outcome, it would have been the icing on the cake.

Corinthian Casuals go to Dorking on Saturday with the victors winning promotion to the Ryman Premier.
