Gillingham v Tottenham Hotspur preview

It could be a record low attendance at The Valley tonight as Gillingham face Tottenham Hotspur in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Steve Lovell takes his side to the home of local rivals, Charlton Athletic, for the group clash against an Under 21s side from the Premier League outfit, but it will be far from a glamorous tie.

The Gills are rumoured to have sold just 54 tickets for the game with the competition boycotted by many teams for its lack of appeal.

Switching the game because the surface at Priestfield is currently being relaid and having to be played at a Football League ground, the clash at The Valley could leave a sour taste for those that attend or even care.

Lovell is expected to give a run out to his fringe players with bigger fish to fry and with one eye on Saturday’s League One clash against Southend United at Priestfield in mind.
