Gillingham v Charlton Athletic preview
Gillingham v Charlton Athletic preview

After Tuesday’s reverse, Charlton will be looking to‎ get back on track at Gillingham on Saturday. If they can win at the Priestfield, it will be the Addicks’ third successive away win.

The Gills are currently propping up the table, and still looking for their first win of the season.

Gillingham will be without midfielder Lee Martin through suspension for the visit of the Addicks.

Martin was shown a red card for an off-the-ball incident during the midweek draw at AFC Wimbledon and starts a three-match ban.

Midfielder Billy Bingham will continue to be assessed after suffering concussion in training which has ruled him out of the past two matches.

Defender Bradley Garmston (calf) is stepping up his recovery, but Aaron Morris (knee) remains a long-term absentee.

With so much at stake for Ady Pennock, anything other than a win could prove to be ultimately costly for the under pressure Head Coach.

‎Meanwhile, Karl Robinson more-or-less said at his press conference on Thursday that he will name an unchanged side at Gillingham.

This is what the boss had to say:

‎”The players that played on Tuesday deserve an opportunity to go back into the game and be on the front foot and be aggressive in what we want to do.

“Hopefully, we can achieve a result that the fans deserve. Obviously, selling out the tickets is superb and it’s a big area behind that goal.

“We’re going to be well supported so we’ll be looking forward to kicking towards their end and sending them back down the A2 very, very happy.

“I know we have a big part of our fan base over that way, so we’re really looking forward to the challenge.

“We’ve had a de-brief (after the Wigan game) and we’ve spoken very honestly with each other.

“We know that we weren’t anywhere near our best and we feel frustrated by that. It was disappointing, but it’s part and parcel of football.

“You have to dust yourself off and go again and there’s no better challenge than to go to Gillingham for a derby at the weekend,” said Robinson.

He went on to give an update on the progress of his injured players:

‎”Ben Reeves has started running, he had a scan yesterday and he’s been given the all clear, but he won’t be in contention yet for Saturday.

“It’s about the bigger picture. He has to be fit for the remaining games of the season, not to get him fit for one or two and then miss the next six.

“Mark Marshall has been running outside today which is a tremendous step in the right direction.

“Hopefully he’ll be back ready and raring to go shortly. Lewis Page and Harry Lennon have also both started running outside, so the four players who weren’t fit and not in contention at all are starting to get fit and get near their levels.”

Robinson will be pleased to have more options when he has a full squad to pick from avail‎able.

Charlton will probably line-up like this:

Amos; Solly, Bauer, Pearce, Dasilva; Kashi, Forster-Caskey, Fosu, Clarke, Holmes; Magennis.

‎Subs: Phillips, Konsa, Sarr, Aribo, Jackson, Ahearne-Grant, Dodoo.

Graham Salisbury from Lancashire will be the referee.

To mount a serious, sustained promotion challenge, ‎these are type of games the Addicks have to win.

They will be backed by a large, raucous, expectant following – the Addicks have sold their entire allocation of tickets for the match.

R‎obinson will be disappointed if his team do not take this golden opportunity to return to winning ways.
