Gateshead 0-2 Bromley
Gateshead 0-2 Bromley

Louis Dennis was the hero for Bromley as they ended the season with a 2-0 win over Gateshead.

Dennis scored the only goal of the game with only twelve minute remaining when he latched onto a Daniel Johnson pass to slot in the winning goal.

The attacking player scored again soon after when he finished a quick counter attacking move for the Ravens.

Both teams already had their place in the National League secured for next season and, with nothing to play for but additional points, the game began slowly. Both teams looked to create chances but neither were able to create clear opportunities to score.

Gateshead took control of possession but Bromley’s central defensive partnership of Jack Holland and Lee Minshull were able to hold firm.

The hosts continued to look for the opening goal. On 15 minutes Jamal Fyfield met a corner before heading it onto Wes York who put his effort over from within the six yard box.

Neil Smith’s Bromley side seemed happy to absorb the pressure Gateshead were putting them under, leaving Bradley Goldburg and Tobi Sho- Silva isolated up front.

Bromley’s first chance came in the 36th minute. Louis Dennis was tripped outside the area before stepping up to take the free kick himself and hitting a tame shot at Dan Hanford.

Despite a slow half for Bromley, the visitors ended the half with a flourish. Blair Turgott’s inswinging cross from the left just evaded the head of Tobi Sho- Silva, putting an end to a drab 45 minutes of football.

Much like the first half, Gateshead began the second half by pushing forward and not allowing Bromley time on the ball. Wes York had a shot blocked by Jack Holland before Manny Smith was unable to convert from a few yards out following a free kick.

Bromley struggled to get into the game, and a lapse in concntration gave their hosts another chance. George Smith was given too much time on the left wing but his cross was easily headed away by Daniel Johnson.

With time running out and the game not speeding up, both teams were forced into half chances. Jordan Higgs found himself in some space 20 yards from goal, but he slipped as he hit the shot, resulting in an easy save for Hanford in the Gateshead goal.

It only took one clear cut chance for Bromley to take the lead though. A surging run from Daniel Johnson ended with the full back finding Louis Dennis in the middle, he evaded a tackle before calmly placing a shot into the right side of the net on 78 minutes.

It only took six minutes for Bromley to double their lead. A defensive slip from Gateshead allowed young Aiden Enver to come away with the ball. Enver played in Dennis who, yet again, was able to slot in the second goal with a cool finish to give the Ravens their final win of the season.
