Fulham 3-0 Charlton Athletic

Charlton’s first televised game of the season was played on a calm and mild evening in West London, though there were occasional showers.Fulham v Charlton

The Addicks slumped to a 3-0 defeat, after conceding two goals in the first twelve minutes.

Former Charlton midfielder, Scott
Parker, controlled the game from the middle of the park in the first half.

Bob Peeters’ already small squad,
was further reduced with Rhoys Wiggins missing out through an injured foot.

Morgan Fox took his place with Terrell Thomas making his debut on the bench in case of further mishap.

Johann Gudmundsson was deemed fit enough to make a surprise return on the bench.

Bette noir, Parker, put Fulham ahead after just six minutes when Chris Solly gave the ball away.

Ross McCormack galloped away and when the ball was played in, Parker fired home via the crossbar.

Six minutes later the hosts doubled their advantage when Tal Ben Haim’s attempted clearance fell to Ross McCormack on the edge of the box.

McCormack’s shot was well saved by Stephen Henderson but Hugo Rodallega was on hand to convert the rebound.

Charlton gradually got a foothold in the game but  Parker – the subject of merciless abuse all night from the Charlton fans – was giving a midfield master class.

Midway through the half, Johnnie Jackson sustained a head injury that required bandaging.

The Addicks ended the first period on a high when Frederic Bulot cut in from the right but fired over.

The second half saw a complete transformation with Charlton in almost total control.

They created numerous chances but it just was not to be their night.
Probably their best chance was a George Tucudean header from a Jackson corner that was tipeed round the post by Marcus Bettinelli.

To add insult to injury, Rodallega added a third a minute from time.

So Bob Peeters suffered a second defeat in six days. Though the result would not have pleased him,  the second half performance of his team would have encouraged him.

They played with pace and purpose  and if they continue to perform at this tempo, they will win more matches than they lose.
