Faversham Town 2-1 Hythe Town

Hythe Town sunk to a depressing 2-1 defeat at Faversham Town on Tuesday evening.

Right from the off, the Lilywhites looked more up for the game and had a number of early attacks as firstly ex-Cannon Liam King had shot deflected away by Salvyn Kisitu for a corner. This was quickly followed by a free header by Matt Bourne from a corner that went wide. The pressure continued with another ex-Cannon, Ashley Miller firing wide from twenty yards and then George Monger lifted the ball over the bar.

The chances kept coming and with better finishing the hosts would have been out of sight. Two opportunities then fell to King as he firstly pulled a shot wide and then sent another one high and wide. Jamie Maxted was next to threaten as he sent a shot straight at Hythe keeper George Kamurasi.

Jack Sammoutis had the first effort for Hythe on 24 minutes but his effort also missed the target going over the top. However, this was a brief respite for the Cannons as Monger got a shot away that went straight at Kamurasi. Faversham finally took the lead on 33 minutes as Ben Chapman was brought down in the penalty area. Up stepped Danny Walder who sent Kamurasi the wrong way to make it 1-0.

This seemed to spark some reaction from Hythe as they came more into the game. On 37 minutes Zak Ansah had a shot easily held by former Hythe keeper Will Godmon.

Hythe were to sneak an equaliser on 41 minutes as Elliot Capel played in Ryan Palmer who placed his shot to perfection into the corner of the net to bring the scores level. Parity lasted only five minutes as sixty seconds into injury time Miller fired home after the Hythe defence had failed to clear.

The second half was more even with both sides having opportunities but failing to take advantage. Miller had a speculative shot that was pushed around the post by Kamurasi and at the other end Charlie Webster shot straight into the arms of Godmon. Ansah forced Godmon to smother the ball but there will still chances coming for the hosts as a curling shot from Chapman went just the wrong side of the post.

Palmer did have a free-kick on 70 minutes but his attempt lacked power and did not test Godmon. There were few opportunities that followed and the game ended with a deserved home victory.

All in all, it was a very gloomy evening for Hythe as they remain in seventh place as they await a home game on Saturday (9th February 2019) when Phoenix Sports are the visitors.
