Faversham Town 0-3 Hythe Town
Faversham Town 0-3 Hythe Town

Faversham’s winning run came to an end against local rivals Hythe who for the third time this season beat them by three goals.

This time Faversham with a young team with two debutants gave it their all but just lacked a little but the crowd could see that the effort was there, Hythe meanwhile moved into the top four & at the moment look a good bet for at least a play-off spot.

The game took a long time to get going with Hythe dominating possession but the final pass was lacking while Faversham defended resolutely, the first half chance of the game came in the 31st minute when a cross into the area by Kieron Campbell found ex Faversham centre forward Dean Grant but his header was easily saved by Simon Overland.

Faversham had their chance in the 39th minute when a free into the area by Danny Walder was flicked on to Ollie Lee but his header looped over the bar.

In the second minute of added on time a contentious decision changed the game when George Monger challenging for the ball was deemed to have committed a foul & also was booked, the free kick went into the area & found Grant who 8 yards out on his own headed in.

The second half saw Hythe continue their dominance of possession but Faversham a little deflated after conceding that goal seemed to be up for the battle. In the 51st minute Luke Griffiths beat a defender & tried his luck but it went over the bar & fence (summing up their night).

Hythe were soon back at Faversham & in the 63rd minute Ben Wilson on the left received the ball & from 20 yards saw his shot pushed over the bar by Overland.

A minute later they had doubled their lead when Campbell on the left went past the defenders to the by-line & his low cross was swept in by Captain Ryan Johnson from10 yards. Four minutes later & it was nearly three when a Campbell cross was half cleared to Jordan Johnson Palmer whose volley from 20 yards went inches past the post.

Faversham nearly got a goal back when a corner into the 6 yard box was headed goal wards by Ryan Cheek but Ex Faversham keeper Will Godman pushed it over the bar for a corner.

Two minutes later & another chance came when Mark Lovell on the right wing flicked the ball into the area for Rhys Abioye who stretching for it just got contact to it forcing Godmon to get to it before Chris Barnard.

In the 76th minute it was three when Sidney Sollis on the right wing on halfway swept the ball wide to Campbell on the left & he jinked inside & shot home from 18 yards.

In the second minute off added on time Sollis was fouled in the area & a penalty given, up stepped Jerson Dos Santos & his shot came back of the bar & forgetting the rules that someone else needed to touch it blasted it over the bar giving a free kick to Faversham.

The final whistle went & for Hythe it was a great three points deserved while Faversham can take solace that they kept going till the end.
