Erith Town v Pagham FC – Preview

Southern Counties East Football League Club Erith Town are on a great run in the F.A. Vase and will entertain Pagham F.C. in the first round on Saturday.

In the first qualifying round they drew 1-1 after extra time at St. Francis Rangers before winning the replay 2-0 with goals from Steadman Callender and Danny Gannon.

Then in the second qualifying round they claimed a hard fought one nil victory over Mile Oak, courtesy of a 22nd minute penalty by Ryan Golding.

Manager Adam Woodward has put together a brand new squad this season and he will be first to admit that it’s a ‘work in progress’. He, and other members of his staff are scouting by going to as many local games as they can cover when they are not playing or training.

He will be hoping that Golding can add to his twelve goals so far this season knowing that if they get through this round they will be one game away from their best ever Vase campaign.

That was in 2013-14 when they came straight in at the first round stage. They started with a 4-3 win over Lingfield before beating Hartley Wintney 5-1.

Their run ended with a 3-0 defeat at Norwich United in the third round.

However, the immediate priority will be the game against Pagham who are positioned in mid table in the Sussex County Football League Division 1, but will be equally keen on putting a run together.

The game will take place at Oakwood, Old Road Crayford on Saturday 21st October kick off 15:00.
