Elokobi Signs For Stones

Experienced defender George Elokobi has signed for Maidstone United ahead of their first season back in the National League South.

This is the second deal for a defender the Stones have made this week following the announcement of Gavin Hoyte.

He began his career as a physical left back but now spends his days playing in the centre of a back line.

The 33 year old spent last season at two clubs across the National League, starting the year at Leyton Orient before signing with Aldershot in February 2019.

He started his career at Dulwich Hamlet but soon worked his way into the Football League at Colchester United before signing for Wolves in 2008.

He spent six years at the West Midlands side, becoming a cult hero in the process before moving to Oldham. After a return to Colchester in 2015 he turned his focus back to non league football and made a move to Orient.

Talking to the Maidstone United website, Elokobi said “It feels brilliant to be here. It’s a good club – I played here at the end of last season, I enjoyed the atmosphere so I’m glad to be here.”

“I spoke to Hakan Hayrettin to find out what was in place here and what sort of club it was. Once we spoke about this, it was a project I wanted to be a part of.

“I come here with a lot of experience under my belt and I can assure everyone they’ve not experienced someone like me before! We’ve had our holidays and time off and now I’m looking forward to getting going.”
