Porsche Carrera Cup GB rookie Dan Vaughan secured an impressive double podium on his Monza debut over the weekend, with a second and third placed finish during the Championship’s only overseas meeting of the season.

The 21-year old once again stated his intent on challenging for the Pro-Am honours on his maiden season, battling his way back from a 17th grid place spot in the opening race to take P7 at the chequered flag, claiming 3rd in class on his second visit to the rostrum so far this year.

Starting in 7th for round six on the iconic Italian track, the A E Graphics-backed racer demonstrated mature race craft in the mid-pack. Piloting the #55 Porsche 911 GT3 cup car up into 6th overall, Vaughan claimed 2nd in the Pro-Am class, marking his third podium from the last four races and the fastest Pro-Am driver on track.

The weekend’s results have helped to establish the New Forest-based driver as a serious Pro-Am title challenger this season, with Vaughan having closed the gap to the current Championship leader down to just 11 points after six races.

The Porsche Carrera Cup GB now has a four week break before reconvening at Oulton Park in Cheshire on June 9/10 for rounds 7 and 8.

Speaking after the weekend David Bartrum, said: “Monza turned out to be a very enjoyable weekend with great results. Dan did a brilliant job. We arrived on the back foot carrying the penalty from Donington but he was determined to work hard to get the best from the weekend.

“He studied the circuit and put a lot of time in with the engineers and the team and took on board everything he needed to do. As a result of that hard work he had a really positive couple of races and was rewarded with two podiums and has moved himself up into contention for the Championship.

“I’m very proud and very pleased with Dan and the team from Monza, the whole group did an excellent job.”
