Cray Wanderers v Herne Bay preview

Cray Wanderers are back in Ryman League Division One South action on Wednesday night at Hayes Lane when they entertain Herne Bay in a Kent derby.

Cray ended a poor recent run of form with a much needed 1-0 win at Whyteleafe on Saturday thanks to a first half Lee Prescott goal and they will be hoping to continue this going into the last six games of the season.

The Wands now sit in twelfth with 66pts from 40games, while Herne Bay occupy seventeenth with 49pts from their 40 played. Bay lost 4-1 at Carshalton Athletic on Saturday, which was a rare bad result in recent times, having lost only five of sixteen matches this year.

The reverse fixture in February saw The Wands win 1-0 with a goal from Luke Medley, when a play off bid still looked to be on the cards for the Black and Ambers, but sadly injuries, suspensions and a dip in form cost Tony Russell’s side their chance of making the post season.

This should be a keenly contested close game between two sides who met on many occasions over their years together in the Kent League.
