Cray Wanderers v Charlton Athletic preview

Table topping Cray Wanderers turn their attention to cup football on Wednesday night when they entertain Charlton Athletic U23s in the Kent Senior Cup second round at Hayes Lane.

The Wands went ten points clear at the top of the Bostik League Division One South East with a hard fought 2-1 win over Hastings Utd on Sunday thanks to goals from Wilberforce Orcan and Tom Phipp. The Black and Ambers remain unbeaten in the league so far this season, losing just two cup games.

Manager Tony Russell has said he will field a mixed side of first teamers and youngsters as he keeps his main focus on promotion. The Wands beat Ramsgate 2-1 to reach this round, while Charlton received a bye.

The two sides met in this competition last season with Jason Euell’s side winning 5-1. The Addicks teaches the semi finals last year and will be one of the favourites to go close again this campaign with their highly talented side.

This should be an entertaining game with young players looking to make their mark on both sides and help their teams make the quarter finals again.
