Cray Wanderers 1-4 Redbridge

After a mini revival under new manager Gary Abbott, Cray came down to earth with a bump as they were taught a lesson in finishing by bottom side Redbridge who looked far better than their league position.Cray Wanderers

The game started with Cray making all the attacking moves, from the kick off the physical nature of the game was cast as Michael Phillips was dumped on the floor. The first booking came inside two minutes when Redbridge’s Vinny Murphy was caution after a shocking foul on Kerry Kedze.

Kedze looking promising down the left and he set up Adrian Stone twice early on, with the veteran striker just off target on both occasions. Then on 12 minutes the visitors took the lead with their first attack, as Shane Wallace lobbed Darren Behcet from 25 yards totally out of the blue.

Cray continued to have the better of the play, but Redbridge could have made it two when Chinedu Mckenzie saw a spectacular volley palmed away by Behcet. Kedze and Stone both went close again before the visitors made it 2-0 on 45 minutes when Brian Moses was fouled and Murphy hit an unstoppable free kick from 35yards that sailed in just under the bar.

The second half started at a frenetic pace, Hulusi Mustafa had an effort saved by Behcet, before The Wands pulled one back on 59 minutes when a Cesc Fakinos free kick was turned in at the far post by Max Fitzgerald.

Sadly for Gary Abbott’s men they were 3-1 down within a minute when Moses played a superb pass through to Shane Wallace who finished coolly past Behcet.

Cray were then reduced to ten men when Fitzgerald was shown a straight red for a poor challenge on Murphy. Moses went close soon after curling an effort just over the bar and McKenzie was just off target as the momentum shifted to Redbridge.

The final goal of the game came on 72minutes when Moses was brought down by Steve Springett in the box and Mark Nougher tucked the penalty away for 4-1.

Late on Shawn Beaveney had one chance blocked and another superbly saved by Jack Avery while Shaun Welford also hit the post, but The Wands were to suffer another disappointing night.
