In the season finale of the FIA World Endurance Championship Mike Conway finished fourth in Brazil last weekend.Mike Conway - Toyota Sao Paulo

Racing in the number seven Toyota TS040 Hybrid for the second time in a row, Conway helped the team recover from a drive through penalty to just miss out on a podium finish in the WEC Finale.

Starting the race from fifth, Alex Wurz had the opening drive in the #7 before handing over to Mike with the car still in fifth position. Conway pushed hard throughout his stint putting in the car’s fastest lap of the race at the time.

Despite this pace Conway couldn’t quite get close enough to the car in front to move up to fourth, before handing over to Stephane Sarrazin. Sarrazin put in a double stint and helped the #7 gain the position before Wurz took over but this was then lost when Wurz was given a very harsh drive through penalty, which meant the number seven went back down to sixth with less than two hours remaining.

Conway took over from Wurz with the car in fifth position. Mike put in a great final stint, setting the car’s fastest lap of the race again and steering the #7 back up to fourth position. Conway eventually handed over to Sarrazin with less than an hour to go, who saw the car home in fourth place, just two seconds behind the #1 Audi.

Speaking after the season finale, Mike said, “As the race was unfolding it was a huge fight between Toyota, Porsche and Audi. It was really close. We saw a few different strategies but ultimately we were looking at a podium. We pushed flat-out all the way to try to get the car up there but it’s just a pity we couldn’t have had a restart because I think both cars could have made up positions.”

This was yet another good performance by Mike Conway, in what has been a fantastic season for the 31-year-old. Mike will be hoping for another good year in 2015, details of where he will be racing will be announced in the near future.
