The Addicks could only manage a 0-0 draw with Blackpool at The Valley on Saturday afternoon, in a game that was high in endeavour, but low in quality.

The visitors came to spoil, frustrate, and nick a point. They succeeded.‎ It was poor entertainment for the large crowd – attracted by the club’s Football For A Fiver promotion.
This is the manager’s assessment of the performance:
“We created enough chances and half chances to win the game. We got into some good areas, created some good chances and didn’t take them. They came here, they made it difficult.

“They were running the clock down from the first minute. They made it hard for us. I thought we defended very well but in that final third again it’s just letting us down at the moment. They (his team) created chances but we just didn’t take them.

“At the start of the second half we got in some good areas and we had spare bodies in the box.

“If only whoever had the ball could have lifted their head and picked out the right pass, it would be clear cut chances but we did that first half and still didn’t take the chances. It’s two points dropped which is our own doing.”

Lee Bowyer’s team again looked toothless in attack, despite the return of Lyle Taylor. Taylor had a frustrating and unimpressive afternoon.
He picked up another booking, his ninth of the season. If he receives another in any of the next four matches, he will incur a two match suspension.
Joe Aribo also returned, and he was far more impressive. Along with Naby Sarr, he was Charlton’s best player.
Lee Bowyer had this to say about the pair after the game:
“Joe was outstanding, what’s he been out six or seven weeks? And he’s just come back, he’s had one week of training and he puts a performance in like that.

“He was very, very good. I love him Joe, he’s such a good lad. He got in the box, he was there for a couple of cut-backs if Jonny (Williams) would have seen him.

“And Naby Sarr. I think Naby Sarr was excellent again today.”

Aribo has been linked with a move away from The Valley when his contract runs out in the summer, but Bowyer is confident he will remain with the Addicks:

“We’re working at it (a new contract), we’re working hard. I’m hopeful that he’ll sign. He has said to me personally that he wants to sign, all we can do is keep trying, trying and get it over the line but it’s not through lack of effort, trust me.”

The manager was concerned about Taylor teetering on the brink of another suspension, and added this:

“Obviously Lyle knew the situation, I said to him when he came back that he’s got to be careful. To be fair, I don’t know what he did in that corner (when he got booked) but it didn’t look like much. I didn’t think it was a yellow card.”

The result leaves Bowyer’s dream of automatic promotion hanging by a thread. To reach the target he set, his team must now win 11 of their remaining 13 matches.
They travel to rock bottom AFC Wimbledon next week. It is a game they have to win.
