Busy summer ahead for Cray
Busy summer ahead for Cray

Cray Wanderers have been busy in the early part of the close season, arranging an extensive programme of pre-season fixtures and re-signing some familiar faces ready for the new campaign in Isthmian League Division One South.

Last season’s top scorer Danny Haynes has signed up again as well as captain Lea Dawson, young defender Ben Mundele and forward Luke Medley.

Also re-joining The Wands are striker Michael Power and midfielder James Duckworth who missed the last year of football with injury.

Power returns to the club for a third spell after playing for Erith Town, Greenwich Borough and Thamesmead Town in the meantime.

The only confirmed departures are player coach Paul Lorraine and forward Brandon Scott who has joined the Jamie Vardy Academy in search of a professional career.

Scott had trials at Fleetwood last season and attracted a lot of attention from other league clubs last Autumn when in sparkling form for Tony Russell’s side.

When Cray do kick off their new league season at Hayes Lane it will be on a 3G pitch currently being installed at the ground by landlords Bromley FC.

With the new proposed Isthmian League constitution The Wands will have several local derbies playing VCD Athletic, Thamesmead Town and Greenwich Borough along with five other Kent sides in the division.

Cray’s pre-season schedule so far:

Saturday 8th July, Charlton Athletic U23s at Sparrows Lane (1pm), Tuesday, 11th July; vs. Sheppey United (7.45); Saturday 15th July v Fisher (3pm); Tuesday 18th July v Corinthian (7.45); Saturday 22nd July v Bearsted (3pm); Tuesday 25th July v Erith & Belvedere (7.45); Tuesday 1st August v Canvey Island (7.45) and Saturday 5th August v Merstham (3pm).
