BTCC kicks off in fine style

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship kicked off in fine style at a sunny Brands Hatch on Sunday afternoon.

Once again there were three different winners of the BTCC races, with Tom Ingram talking victory in race one, 2016 champion Gordon Sheddon winning race two and Andrew Jordan the win in race three.

It was close racing from the off, with crashes early on in race one with Matt Neale coming together on the start finish straight on lap one before the race had a chance to get going.

In race two Jason Plato found himself in the wall on the pit straight after a coming together with Matt Simpson.

Jake Hill was running well along with teammate Michael Epps before Hill had to come into the pits which effectively ended his race. Epps went on to finish ninth. In race two it was Epps who lead the Team Hard drivers home with a P10 finish with Hill P19.

Will Burns in his first start for the team had a bit of a nightmare weekend with problems in all three races. Finishing 26th, 22nd and 26th.

Hill and Epps went on to be part of the same battle in the final race, both passing Tom Ingram at the same time to finish in the top ten with Epps a place ahead in 9th.

The three Motorbase drivers struggled a bit across the weekend with Mat Jackson once again the pick of the bunch with 8th,5th and 13th place finishes.

Davernport and Depper on debut for the team with Davenport finishing outside the top fifteen in all three races and Depper finishing a high of 15th, securing a well earned point.

In the support classes Mike Bushell showed why he is one of the title favourites in the Renault U.K. Clio Cup, taking a double pole in qualifying and following that up with second in race one.

On main raceday Sunday he took a comfortable lights to flag victory in the end but he was pressured by fellow Kent driver Jack McCarthy all the way, a mistake by the 16 year old saw him finish fourth going one better than his opening race on Saturday.

Luke Reade also making his debut in the series struggled a bit but showed his potential on Saturday with a top ten finish, and on Sunday he had to work his way back through the field finishing P19.

Meanwhile Kiern Jewiss getting behind the wheel of a Ginetta Junior race car on a race weekend for the first time, failed to finish in the opening race on Saturday, and then improved on that Sunday, finishing just outside the top ten in 11th place.
