Bromley 2-1 Maidstone United
Bromley 2-1 Maidstone United

A powerful and positive final fifteen minutes from Bromley was enough to edge this cup tie against fellow National league side Maidstone and secure a trip to Tonbridge Angels in the next round thanks to the introduction of two youngsters after falling behind.

Bromley started brightly moving the ball around well, but didn’t really create any chances before Maidstone rallied with James Rogers firing wide.

Both sides had spells of pressure over the half with little to show for it before Bromley finished the stronger going into the break.  Bradley Goldberg and Joe Howe going close, Adam Cunnington heading a Joe Anderson cross wide and Dave Martin hitting a drive from distance just wide of the post.

Stones trialist Charlie Harris fired over while at the other end keeper Lee Worgan was on hand to save from Blair Turgott and Cunnington.

The second half saw the visitors start the better Alan Julian making fine saves from Tom Murphy and Rogers before making an ever better stop from a curling Ben Greenhalgh drive.

Eventually The Stones pressure paid off when a short corner came to Greenhalgh who crashed the ball home from just inside the box.

Neil Smith rang the changes for Bromley introducing youngsters Jordan Higgs and Daniel Ajakaiye with markedly positive results.

Howe crossed the ball for Ajakaiye who diverted it into Higgs’ path and he drove the ball home to make it 1-1.

Then two minutes later Ajakaiye broke into the box down the right and was floored by Seth Twumasi for a penalty.

Turgott stepped up to convert the spot kick powerfully past Worgan to put The Ravens in front. Bromley continued to press with trialist Channing Cambell having a goalbound effort deflected wide off Ajakaiye, before Higgs headed a Turgott ball just off target and finally Ajakaiye dazzled the crowd with some great footwork and pace before firing over in the last minute.
