Bromley 1-1 Dulwich Hamlet (5-6 pens)

Two months on from the FA Trophy final Bromley suffered another penalty shoot out defeat, although this one was a lot less painful, as they lost the inaugural Glynn Beverley Cup to old rivals Dulwich Hamlet.

Lining up 5-3-2 Bromley started the game well with George Porter and Omar Bugeil going close, but it was Hamlet who took the lead on 9 minutes with their first real attack, when Nyron Clunis coasted past the static home defence before coolly sliding the ball past David Gregory into the corner of the net from the edge of the box.

Neil Smith’s side suffered a blow when Kyle De Silva had to go off injured, but they did still go on to create a number of chances. Sub Bobby-Joe Taylor fired over, Porter had a goal disallowed for offside and Dan Johnson headed the ball against the bar after more good work from Taylor.

Johnson again went close late on in the half when his low shot was turned round the post by Preston Edwards in The Hamlet goal.

The Ravens started the second half on top, Dan Johnson had a shot blocked and Taylor put the rebound wide.

Edwards saved again from Johnson and then saw Porter clip a one on one just wide of the post. Edwards was on hand again to tip over a Porter header after a great cross from Taylor and Marc-Anthony Okoye saw his goal bound header cleared for a corner by Nathan Ferguson.

Gavin Tomlin forced a save from Gregory at the other end before Edwards’ replacement in goal Amadou Tangara bravely saved at the feet of Porter. After lots of pressing Bromley finally equalised on 78 minutes when Taylor’s wayward shot deflected home off the unfortunate Jay-Ric Bahelou a couple of feet from goal.

Porter had another headed goal disallowed for offside soon after, before Dulwich nearly nicked it late on when Tomlin’s almost perfect chip was palmed over by Gregory as he scrambled back to his line.

The game went straight to penalties with the first eight all scored, both Gregory and Tangara saved two penalties each, eventually with the score at 5-6 Jake Goodman saw his spot kick pushed away by Tangara to secure the win for Dulwich.

Dulwich manager Gavin Rose will be very happy with this performance as the newly promoted National League South held their own against a Bromley side who are still looking to find that scoring touch in front of goal to finish off their approach play.
