Bromley 1-0 Solihull Moors
Bromley 1-0 Solihull Moors

Bromley secured their second home win of the week with a late strike from sub George Porter to edge past Solihull in a tight hard fought encounter at Hayes Lane on Saturday.

Lining up 4-5-1 Neil Smith set his side up to keep things tight and although The Ravens had lots of early possession they created very little. As the half went on Brett Williams had a shot saved and then headed a Frankie Sutherland corner over. Bromley dropped very deep when Solihull had the ball and Williams often cut a lone isolated figure up front on his own.

As the half went on the game opened up and Moors created some chances of their own with Wes McDonald having a low shot saved down at the near post by David Gregory. Luke Wanadio and Frankie raymond had shots deflected wide for the home side before McDonald had another effort saved by Gregory and Courtney Richards drove the rebound narrowly over the bar.

The second half saw Bromley start on top Adam Mekki putting a deep Tyrone Sterling cross over the bar and Williams shooting wide, but Solihull then rallied. McDonald went close for the visitors again soon after, hitting the foot of the post after another strong run down the left and then having another shot saved.

Gregory saved bravely at the feet of Shepherd Murombedzi, before Bromley then nearly went in front when Jordan Liburd hit a Wanadio cross towards his own goal, which Natahan Vaughan did well to keep out. From the following corner Sutherland volleyed over and then Raymond went close with a free kick.

With twenty minutes to go Louis Dennis came on to give Bromley some more attacking impetus, but after Josh Rees headed wide, Moors then had a good spell of pressure. Kristian Green fired wide, Ben Fox and Richards had shots saved by Gregory. With Bromley needing to find some inspirations George Porter and Iffy Allen came on and they proved to be the combination that would win the game. Allen finding Porter with a great pass that the striker coolly slipped past Vaughan to make it 1-0 on 86 minutes.

The two linked up again in injury time, but Porter was just off target as he clipped the ball past Vaughan again.

In the end one goal was enough to win this closely contested match and The Ravens were the team with the one quality strike of the day.

Bromley now sir sixth in the National League with a trip to Halifax up next on Saturday 23rd.
