Bromley 0-1 AFC Fylde

Bromley lost their first game of the year and slipped down to eighth in the table on a frustrating afternoon at Hayes Lane on Saturday, thanks to a single first half goal from AFC Fylde.

Fylde started the game on top and went close very early on when Janny Smith latched on to a slip by David Gregory, but his shot was cleared off the line by Roger Johnson.

The Coasters had a series of corners and pinned Bromley back for long spells, before Neil Smith’s side finally got going on 20 minutes. Louis Dennis set up Luke Wanadio who fired wide and the pacey winger also hit the post soon after with Josh Rees unable to get the rebound on target.

Dennis had a shot saved soon after, but just as The Ravens looked to be getting a foothold in the game Fylde went in front when Jack Muldoon raced through the home defence and slipped the ball under Gregory from the edge of the six yard box for 0-1.

Muldoon forced two saves from Gregory soon after and also put another chance wide as The Coasters pushed Bromley back again. Late in the half The Ravens had a strong spell themselves, Frankie Raymond crossed for Rees who headed wide and Adam Mekki headed over after a knock down from a free kick by Roger Johnson.

The second half saw Bromley come out looking to attack with the introduction of debutant striker Omar Bugeil on loan from Forest Green Rovers. Wanadio forced a save from Jay Lynch and put another effort wide soon after. Rees had a shot saved and Wanadio’s attempt from the rebound was blocked in the six yard box.

The Ravens had a series of corners, which the visitors’ defence kept out and they nearly extended their lead when top scorer Danny Rowe had one shot saved by Gregory and put another just wide. Bret Williams came on to add another striker to the forward line and he put an over head kick just above the bar from a corner. Bromley continued to press, but the Fylde defence held strong and some clear shirt pulling and time wasting went unpunished by the lenient officials.

Late on Dennis had a free kick saved by Lynch and Jordan Higgs headed over a free kick following a foul on Bugeil, but in the end there was no breakthrough for The Ravens.

Bromley now have a week to recover before the long trip to Blyth Spartans for the FA Trophy 2nd Round game next weekend.
