Amos proves to be a success story
Amos proves to be a success story

One of the success stories of this season for Charlton Athletic, has been the form of keeper, Ben Amos.

Amos arrived at The Valley on a season long loan ‎from Bolton last summer. The 28-year-old stopper signed for the Trotters from Manchester United, but failed to impress.

He spent last season on loan at Cardiff but again, his form was indifferent. This season has been totally different, Amos has been a revelation since arriving in south London.

Lee Turner turned Nick Pope’s fortunes around, and has done the same with Amos. The Macclesfield born custodian’s final act for the Addicks, was to bring off an incredible save to foil Shrewsbury’s Stefan Payne at the death on Sunday.

Amos’ lucrative contract at Bolton still has a year to run, but t‎here seems to be no way back for him at the Macron.

Charlton fans would love him to stay at The Valley, and it appears Amos is not averse to the idea. Here is the statement he issued in response to comments on his Twitter account:

‎”I want to thank everyone at the club and the fans who supported us this season.

February we were dead and buried, but pulled off an incredible comeback to get into the play-offs.

There’s nothing I wanted more than to win at Wembley for you all. I gave everything I had, as those closest to me can attest to. A touch more luck and composure and we could have pulled it off.

I can’t speak on the future, all I can say is I would be honoured to play for the club again at some point in time.

Please don’t take for granted what you have here, the players will need your unwavering support going forward.

Whatever happens, I’ll be routing for you.”

Amos’ contract at the Macron still has a year to run but Bolton would love to move him off the wage bill.

Unfortunately, a permanent deal does not seem financially viable for the Addicks. But Amos’ impressive form this season will attract plenty of interest from Championship clubs.
