Addicks set to announce new pricing
Addicks set to announce new pricing

Fans can renew season tickets for the 2015/16 campaign from Saturday onwards. The prices for next season will be revealed on the club’s website on Saturday morning.

Charlton Athletic

The slogan for the sales campaign is ‘Building A Better Tomorrow Together’.

Given the season the Addicks have had, coupled with the quality of much of the fare that has been on offer, it seems unlikely that the club’s Commercial Centre will be inundated with customers in the early days of the campaign.

Existing seats will be held until 10 April. Normally Charlton have a discounted ‘early bird’ price which is valid until early April, but seats have been kept available at a higher price for several weeks longer.

Though the email sent out does not specifically say that renewal applications will not be posted out, it does seem to imply that this traditional method will be scrapped this year.

Fans have been advised that they can pick up renewal application forms from the Commercial Centre or download the document online. It seems unlikely that this information would be given if a mail out was planned.

Pricing details will also be detailed in Saturday’s edition of Valley Review. Those that do not buy the programme or use the internet may struggle to get renewal details.

There are likely to be several changes from this season’s scheme. The five year VIP ticket expires at the end of the season and there will be no replacement deal, all tickets will be for one year only.

The attempt to make the front six rows of the Upper North a premium area, with access to Crossbars lounge flopped, less than a hundred tickets were sold.

The scheme also prevented patrons from other stands using the Crossbars facility before matches. It also meant that for most games, the popular Legends pre-match meal option was not available.

Former commercial officer, Ben Kensell, introduced a £150 ticket in Block A of the East Stand. Many of the purchasers had migrated from the North Stand, so the idea – like the premium seats in the Upper North – actually decreased, rather than increased, revenue streams.

Despite assurances from Kensell that the idea would be ‘policed’, a number of Block A season ticket holders regularly moved to more expensive seats in the East Stand.

Both the Upper North and East Block A schemes are likely to be scrapped.

The large number of price bands within a single stand was both unwieldy and unnecessary, and made things more complicated than thay should have been. Many long standing ticket holders opted to move a few seats along. where the price was cheaper. Again, this cost the club money.

Charlton’s fate will not definitely be decided by 10 April, though it is looking increasingly likely that they will preserve their Championship status. The division the club are playing in next season will effect the decision process for some fans.

It seems likely that prices will be increased, which will not be popular.

Another change for next season will see the end of the traditional season ticket booklet. Instead, fans will get a plastic card – similar to a credit card – to insert into a reader to gain access to the ground.

All will be revealed on Saturday. Whether the reaction will be better than luke warm remains to be seen.
