Lidsey ‘hungrier than ever’

Impressive Renault UK Clio Cup championship challenger Brett Lidsey says he is ‘hungrier than ever’ to get back on track a week from now when the 2019 season makes its long-awaited resumption at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire, the third event of the campaign.
Some six weeks since the Northfleet driver departed Donington Park second in the points standings, after racing to career-best second place finishes in rounds three and four, Lidsey is now ready to try and continue his magnificent early-season form in the North East next weekend, 15th/16th June.

With four podiums from the first four races of his sophomore year in the British Touring Car Championship feeder category, which is also the last ever season for the Renault UK Clio Cup, the 27-year-old has certainly exceeded all expectation thus far.

During the championship curtain-raiser on home ground at Brands Hatch in early April, the MRM driver got his season off to a very strong start with second row starts to both races and his first ever podiums in the series with third place in each encounter.

Three weeks later at Donington in Leicestershire, Lidsey’s performance improved further with a sensational showing in qualifying and he went on to begin rounds three and four from second place to set-up the opportunity of another double podium challenge.

Converting those starts into untroubled runner-up finishes, the Kent racer delivered impressive pace in both contests and alongside his career-best results the major points haul also elevated Lidsey into second in the championship eight points clear of third place.

Ahead of the visit to Croft next week, a track where Lidsey was a top 10 finisher in his first full season in the Clio Cup in 2018, the Liftout, GHR Scaffolding Ltd, GPL Projects Ltd, Certus Security, Dornack, Taylor Made Decals, MS Motorsport and MSY Grab Hire & Mini Digger Hire backed racer is absolutely determined to continue his fantastic momentum.

“Croft can’t come soon enough”, said the MRM driver, “It feels a very long time since Donington, which was obviously a fantastic weekend, so I can’t wait to be back behind the wheel and back on track at Croft. It’s been a great start to the season for us, better than we could have expected to be honest, so I’m hoping to carry that momentum into next weekend and challenge for more podiums.

“Four podiums from four races, my best ever results in this championship, has been the perfect way to start 2019 for me and I’ve got to say a big thank you to Mike [Ritchie – MRM team principal] and the guys at the team for doing an amazing job. Hopefully we can all keep the form going at Croft, qualify well and have two more strong races.”
