Byrne targeting wins at Brands

Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne is back on track in the second round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship this weekend at his home track of Brands Hatch.

At the opening round of the season during bank holiday weekend, Byrne was back on the podium in the first race on Sunday afternoon finishing second in race one, after taking James Ellison in the last corner.

Race two saw the Sittingbourne based rider finish in fifth place meaning that it was a solid opening weekend of the season and a far better outcome than a year ago at the opening round of the season.

This weekend Byrne will be more determined than ever to add to his tally of seven wins on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit and show just why he will be carrying on racing, and targeting an unprecedented seventh BSB title.

Speaking ahead of the weekend, Byrne said: “It was job done at Donington Park over Easter and I was happy with two solid results in very difficult conditions. There is no point crashing or trying too hard, it’s all about scoring points in these first few races but if the win is possible, then I’ll take it.

“I always love racing at my local track of Brands Hatch as the support is amazing so hopefully we can give the fans something to cheer. The pressure is on as Birdy is competing also this weekend and he always tries to lead by example, so if he wins on Saturday, he’ll expect the same of me for sure on Sunday!”
